Humpty Dumpty hates butter: Chemistry of Cooking eggs
I designed this test with the most qualitative property by measuring the amount of butter and volume of the cooked eggs during every single trial of the experiments. My experiments are also quantitative for the reason that I made the experiment more than once then took the averages of the two.
A reason why that cooking and science are related is because they require the same property in order to get results. For example, using property like heat to bake a cake or turn iron into copper oxide. There is also some properties like homo/hetero geneous mixtures or compounds with lemonade or oil and water.

Water Quality in the Animas River Watershed
Elevator Pitch:
The purpose of our documentary is to educate the public about our local wastewater treatment by answering a variety of questions. These questions include where water goes after it goes down the drain, how the water treatment plant works, and why the treatment plant’s relocation is important. We interviewed the public in downtown Durango to collect a general understanding about their understanding of the wastewater treatment in Durango.
I WANT THE AUDIENCE TO LEAVE WITH THE FOLLOWING:
Lessons learned: A newfound knowledge of how the public is generally educated about wastewater treatment as well as a new understanding of facts
Feeling: educated, understanding
Curious about: More interested in the wastewater treatment plant
THE STORY MY EXHIBIT TELLS IS?
This paragraph should go into detail about how the primary issues or ideas are explored in the exhibit, and explain the connection your audience will have with those concepts. Consider including:
What issues or challenges does your exhibit respond to or attempt to address?
Our exhibit attempts to educate the public about the wastewater treatment plant.
What scientific concepts does your exhibit teach?
Our exhibit teaches concepts regarding where wastewater is transported, how the wastewater treatment plant works, and why it is being remodeled.
How/why will your audience feel connected to the exhibit? (What impact does the challenge or issue have on their lives?)
Since Durango citizens pay taxes which support the Water Reclamation Facility, we believe they most feel obligated to understand more about what their money is supporting.
What are your reasons for creating the work? And what was your process for developing this design?
To develop this design, we first created a storyboard to visualize how our documentary would play out. We created a script with questions that we would use to ask the public questions.
We have since made multiple changes to our film, however, the storyboard was important for building a basis of design.
How does your work fit into the broader picture of what your classmates are creating? Our documentary fits among the work of our classmates because we all have a common goal of educating the public about a topic they may not have known much about before.
TARGET AUDIENCE
What age is your audience? The audience ages will vary because our exhibition is open to the public and anyone is allowed to attend.
What level of education on the subject do they have? This too will vary, younger kids and even adults may have little to no knowledge about the subject we are trying to teach. On the contrary, there may be some educated Durango residents who understand a lot about the wastewater treatment system, potentially because their taxes pay for it.
What kind of “thinkers” are they?
INTERACTION LENGTH & STYLE OF ENGAGEMENT
How long and in what manner do you want audiences to interact with your design? (What draws someone to your exhibit (3 seconds)?
Generally, people are attracted to media and enjoy learning and will find their way to our exhibit because of this.
What engages them (30 seconds)?
Our video will display real public knowledge about the wastewater treatment plant.
What entices them to learn (3 minutes)?
Our video answers common questions the viewer likely has themselves.
What are the primary senses engaged? Why?
Visual and auditory sense are engaged.
What role is your audience playing (i.e., are they the “solver” of a puzzle, or viewing the issue/experience from the perspective of fish or bacteria?)
They are viewing the issue from a standpoint looking inward at a collection of Durango’s public knowledge.
DEFENSE
Make the case for why your design should be included in the City of Durango’s final plans for the remodeled Santa Rita Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
Documentaries are informative and accessible to a wide audience. The Reclamation Facility should include a video so the general public can understand what the intentions of the facility are, how the plant works, how tax money affects the plant, along with other questions that the public may want answered. People appreciate being informed, especially when their money is involved.
Post Project Reflection.
What I have learned throughout this project it that the public REALLY don't know much about our local sewage treatment, Including me. I liked learning along with the public about where the water goes, how it’s treated, and the technologies that are within a sewer plant.
The skill I have used constantly during this project is film making, but a new skill I have picked up is the courage to talk to people I have no knowledge of. It was scary at first to find people to interact with for our research, but once they answer a couple of the questions I stopped hiding behind the camera and thanked them for their time.
I believe that the film itself was specifically made to educate the masses about the subject of waste treatment. And that’s a extremely important subject to learn.
